Citizens Advice Stockport to join the  Citizens Advice SORT Group 

From 1st April 2021, Citizens Advice Stockport is part of the Citizens Advice SORT Group family of charities.  Citizens Advice SORT Group is a group of local Citizens Advice delivering services in Greater Manchester.

Since April 2019, Citizens Advice Stockport has been formally collaborating with Citizens Advice SORT Group, both working together to deliver services across Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale and Trafford.

Together, the charities have been able to support more people than ever to solve their problems.

Phil Aspden, Chair of Citizens Advice SORT Group, said:

“We’re really pleased to be welcoming Citizens Advice Stockport to our group after nearly two years of formal collaboration.

We have shown over the last two years that we are stronger together and able to support more people to solve their problems.

We’re committed to providing a high quality service, and want to assure people that this change won’t impact on our services.

Anyone in need of advice will continue to access their local Citizens Advice service; either Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale or Trafford.”

  • Citizens Advice SORT Group is the parent organisation of Citizens Advice Stockport, Citizens Advice Oldham, Citizens Advice Rochdale and Citizens Advice Trafford.

  • Citizens Advice SORT Group was established in November 2012 as Citizens Advice Pennine West becoming the parent company of Citizens Advice Oldham and Citizens Advice Rochdale.  Citizens Advice Trafford joined the group in June 2017.

  • In 2020/21, the group answered over 45,000 local calls supporting people with initial advice and information about their problem, the group supported a further 18,000 local individuals with tailored advice and in depth casework on over 70,000 issues.

  • The top issues across the areas are universal credit, money & debt, benefits & tax credits, housing and employment.

  • The group supported clients access over £8.2 million in additional income and write off over £2m in debt whilst rescheduling a further £131,000 of debt.
